A vast majority of Americans believe that stay-at-home orders issued throughout the country should remain in place until public health officials say its safe to reopen, according to a Reuters-Ipsos poll.
The poll’s results counter the narrative created by the media hype given to so-called ‘liberate’ protests throughout the country, in which protesters have taken the street to protest anti-lockdown measures.
The poll’s results conclude that a whopping 72% of adults in the U.S. think people should stay at home ‘until the doctors and public health officials say it is safe.’ When broken down by political affiliation, that included 88% of Democrats, 55% of Republicans, and 70% of independents.
As Trump seeks to ignite further discord across the country, the public does not seem quick to follow his lead to reopen the country.
The poll results included some more bad news for the president.
Reuters notes, “When asked specifically about Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis, 44% approved and 52% disapproved, which is an 8-point drop in net approval since last week and a 13-point drop from last month.”
Nevertheless, the president and fellow Republicans continue to push for states to reopen, public health be damned. In an M. Night Shyamalan-style twist, the “pro-life” party is now willing to risk the lives of millions of Americans for potential short-term economic gain.
