If you turned on the TV to find the Belarus Premiere league playing football on TV, don’t worry, you’re not going crazy. Despite nearly a worldwide shutdown in live events, the eastern European country is defying the rest of the world by playing on as if the world is not in total free fall.
According to the BBC, “On Saturday, there were six top-flight games in the eastern European country including the derby between FC Minsk and Dinamo Minsk watched by a capacity 3,000 crowd in Belarus’ capital.”
Some fans in the crowded arena wore masks, while many cheered on their teams shirtless.
To date, there have been fewer than 100 cases reported in the former Soviet republic.
