Is Dr. Birx Compromised?

Dr. Deborah Birx has been thrust into the public spotlight over the last few months as a key member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force.

The American people looked to her for her honest and often sobering insight regarding the latest coronavirus data. Amongst a sea of misinformation, Dr. Birx was very much one of the adults in the room, alongside infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Unfortunately, Dr. Birx seems ready and willing to put her credibility on the line in an effort to curry favor with a president who favors, nay, demands obsequiousness over facts.

It’s time to ask: Has Dr. Deborah Birx bent the knee? (Editor’s note: apologies for the Game of Thrones reference)

The doctor raised eyebrows weeks ago after telling reporters, “[Trump is] so attentive to the scientific literature & the details & the data. I think his ability to analyze & integrate data that comes out of his long history in business has really been a real benefit.”

Trump is a lot of things. Attentive to detail, data and scientific literature? Those are certainly not apt descriptions.

Then on April 19 on ABC’s This Week, Dr. Birx parroted Trump’s attacks on the World Health Organization (WHO), telling George Stephanopoulos, “It wasn’t until the beginning of March that we could all fully see how contagious this virus was.”

This was a shocking lie from one of the nation’s top public health experts.

Political analyst Joe Lockhart noted that it’s weird Dr. Birx “can’t acknowledge that states, with the encouragement of Trump, are not following her criteria,” adding, “She’s acting like a politician.”

It’s evident that both Dr. Birx and Dr. Fauci are trying to thread the needle as it pertains to providing the public with much needed information, while sufficiently coddling the president’s ego.

Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you”

Has Dr. Birx held her gaze past the point of no return?
