Mets’ ‘Polar Bear’ Pete Offers Once-in-a-Lifetime Trip

As the MLB season remains on pause due to COVID-19, New York Mets fans everywhere are anxiously awaiting to see what the reigning NL Rookie of the Year, Pete Alonso’s sophomore season has in store. As MLB fan’s recall, “Polar Bear” Pete smashed 53 home runs as a rookie last season surpassing Aaron Judge and the previous record of 52 set in 2017.

During this downtime of what should be the second month of league play, Alonso is using his high-profile platform to make a splash off the diamond and in a different field…well in this case a lake. Alonso has accepted the #ALLINCHALLENGE – a high profile challenge kick started by Fanatics Founder, Michael Rubin, in an effort to raise money for food insecurity issues facing kids who traditionally receive their meals from the now closed school systems.

Alosno has decided to offer up a fishing excursion, among other generous parting gifts, to the highest bidder with 100% of the proceeds going to Feeding America, Meals On Wheels, World Central Kitchen and No Kid Hungry. The complete description from Fanatics can be found below:

“Pete Alonso may be the reigning National League Rookie of the Year, but as a native Floridian, he’s also a true veteran sportfisherman. Now he wants to take you on a private charter in his home waters. You’ll be reeling in gulf grouper, snapper and cobia off the coast of Tampa with the Polar Bear himself! And there will be plenty of New York Mets memorabilia and game-used collectibles from Alonso’s record-breaking rookie season in addition to your fishing haul. You can talk baseball and fishing and share Cigar City stories with the hometown hero over a delicious lunch. Then let Pete show you fishing tips, or demonstrate your own prowess and pull in an impressive tarpon, redfish or snook! If the fish aren’t biting, that just means more time for Pete to tell you how it felt to break Aaron Judge’s rookie home run record. Whether you’re busy going after goliath grouper or getting details on putting a Major League curveball in the seats, this will be an unforgettable trip. 100% of the money raised through this Game/Auction will go directly to Feeding America, Meals On Wheels, World Central Kitchen and No Kid Hungry.”
