Television evangelist Kenneth Copeland, who is so mired in controversy he has an entire Wikipedia section dedicated to his misdeeds, struck again on Sunday with a prayer to once and for all end the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
On a blog post on Patheos.com, Hemant Mehta jokes that Copeland “offered up what I can only assume is a magic spell this morning in order to destroy COVID-19.” Take a look at his sermon for yourself, below.
In the name of Jesus, standing in the office of the prophet of God, I execute judgment on you, COVID-19! I execute judgment on you, Satan! You destroyer! You killer! You get out! You would break your power! You get off this nation! I demand judgment on you! I demand — I demand — I demand a vaccination to come immediately! I call you dark! I call you doggone! You come down… from your place of authority! Destroyer! You come down and you crawl on your belly, like God commanded you when He put His foot on your head in the Garden of Eden. You will destroy through COVID-19 no more!
And just like that, the earth was rid of the plague of COVID–19. Or not.
It’s hard to decide what’s more egregious – a young man licking items in a grocery store aisle to ‘prove’ that coronavirus panic is overblown, or a 83-year-old religious leader using his massive platform to profit off one of modern history’s worst pandemics. Unfortunately, in America, only one of these behaviors will get you arrested.
Let’s be clear. The threat of coronavirus remains very real. In fact, the U.S. now leads the world in the number of cases. Additionally, there are now over 776,814 cases reported worldwide.
We will not end this problem by denying its existence. Rather, we must unite to fight this pandemic by any means necessary.
