Trump campaign threatens democracy, demands CNN retract poll

President Donald Trump’s campaign has demanded that CNN retract a poll that shows him trailing Democratic nominee Joe Biden by 14 points, according to the Hill.

The request was quickly rejected by CNN spokesperson Matt Dornic who said that “we stand by our poll.”

The CNN poll also released that the President’s approval rating stands at 38 percent, which is on par with the approval rating for one-term presidents Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush.

To refute CNN’s poll, Trump and his campaign hired a pollster McLaughlin & Associates, rated as one of the worst pollsters by FiveThirtyEight, to look into the CNN poll. It must be noted that many quality polls show Biden leading by double-digits too. CNN’s poll is not an outlier.

Nonetheless, the Trump campaign released the following statement in the letter sent to CNN:

“It’s a stunt and a phony poll to cause voter suppression, stifle momentum and enthusiasm for the President, and present a false view generally of the actual support across America for the President.”

Even though Trump has spouted on national television that he essentially needs voter suppression to win, his campaign makes a blasphemous claim that CNN is trying to suppress voters. But that isn’t the case. Trump is trying to break down American democracy and mislead the American people by delegitimizing anything that hurts his reelection chances.
