XFL Suspends Operations After Promising Season Cut Short

The XFL is the latest casualty of the coronavirus pandemic.

The alternative professional football league, re-birthed after a 20-year hiatus by WWE CEO/President Vince McMahon, suspended operations Friday morning and laid off nearly all of it’s staff.

The news comes roughly one month after the league canceled its season due to the nationwide shutdown over COVID-19.

In March, the upstart league promised to return again in 2021, but today the organization took a different tune.

League executives now say there will be no 2021 season as they try to figure out a path forward.
